Are you struggling with your reactive dog?

Video Poster Image

So your dog goes crazy when they see another dog and you are getting to the end of your tether. You have tried so many things to help but nothing makes much difference.

It has got so you dread leaving the house and it is stressing you out. On good days you feel embarrassed and frustrated. On bad days you are in despair. Yet you love your dog and you just wish other people could see the gentle, loving pooch he is at home.

How would you like to be able to have the connection you have at home, wherever you go? To be confident with your dog, even when there are other dogs around? To have peaceful walks where you feel able to handle whatever situations you meet?

Your End of the Lead can help.

Before starting your course I had tried so many different ways to deal with Heidi’s reactive behaviour and I was at a loss as to what to do next. By giving us continual encouragement, support and guidance you have given me the confidence to move forward. You have shown me how to put the fun into training and Heidi is thriving on it.

I have returned to follow Janet's courses again and again. Originally to help with one of my dogs that would at times display reactive behaviour to other dogs. However, the skills I have acquired, the increased understanding and amazing support has helped me have a better relationship with all my dogs. These courses will have something for everyone who shares their life with a dog, what ever their previous qualifications and experience with dogs may be.

How the course works

Your End of the Lead is a modular course, with modules released in sequence throughout 2020 and into 2021. There are eight modules in total, each lasting between 4 and 8 weeks. You can choose to do one module, multiple modules or the whole course - it is up to you.

We recommend the whole course as all the modules build on each other to get the best experience but each module is an independent learning experience in its own right.

Today you can sign up for Module 7 and then Pay As You Go. Once you are on the Module you will be able to purchase the rest of the course if you wish.

Each module has weekly video lessons, weekly activities and a full resource section. There is also a private and safe community space, which will continue throughout the whole course, so you can stay in touch with friends and allies from one module to the next.

Module 7: Training for Reactive Dogs

The seventh module is Training for Reactive Dogs: Changing how you think about training. It starts on January 18th 2021 (Week 1 released on January 15th) and will last for 8 weeks (with a one week break between weeks 4 and 5).

It will teach you how to rethink training so that you understand the different ways dogs learn and when and how to use them effectively to change your dog's behaviour. You will hone your own training skills and get practical activities to help you train for calm, develop core life skills to help with reactivity, learn new ways to build your connection and relationship and ultimately change how your dog feels and acts around triggers.

  1. How dogs learn
  2. Understanding reinforcement
  3. Confident Cues
  4. Practice makes Permanent
  5. YEL Training Pyramid: Calmness
  6. YEL Training Pyramid: Life skills
  7. YEL Training Pyramid: Relationship
  8. YEL Training Pyramid: Changing emotions and reactions.

On Friday each week you will get a series of video lessons, a collection of activities and some additional resources in case you want to explore things further.

The following week we will discuss the activities in the Community and share experiences and support.

The lessons offer practical solutions but are rooted in research and you will learn not only what to do but why it is important.

Janet's online course is brilliant! I love that Janet's approach is so much about compassion and changing your own mindset as well as helping your nervous dog. She has so many different tools available and the challenges she runs are a nice way to learn from the experiences of others in the forum. Joining Canine Confidence last year has made a huge difference to our life and I highly recommend it!
