About Janet Finlay

Find out who I am, how I work and why I can help you.

Hi, I'm Janet Finlay and I'm the owner and primary trainer and coach at Canine Confidence. I began my 3-year training as a TTouch practitioner in 2004 and am now a TTouch Practitioner Level 3 (TTouch Guild), one of the most highly qualified practitioners in the UK. I am also a certified member of the UK Association of Pet Dog Trainers (MAPDT 01046), a Registered Trainer with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC), a member of the Pet Professionals Guild (PPGBI) and a qualified coach. I use only respectful, kind, and effective methods - I will never scare or hurt your dog in the name of training - and I apply that philosophy to you as well. I believe that to address reactive behaviour effectively it is important to work on building confidence at both ends of the lead! With that in mind my training focuses on building engagement between you and your dog, so that they can more easily disengage with things out there that are scary.

Qualified

I have the highest level of qualification as a TTouch practitioner for companion animals (Level 3) and have passed both practical and theoretical assessments to become a member of the APDT. I also have a Level 7 ILM qualification in coaching. I undertake annual Continuing Personal Development, including courses in animal behaviour and training and assisting on TTouch practitioner training.

Experienced

I started with TTouch in 2004 and have been involved in training since 2000, becoming full time in 2012. Over the years, I have worked closely with hundreds of reactive dogs and their owners. In addition, I have over 20 years experience in higher education, latterly as a professor with responsibility for elearning in a large university. This has given me a thorough understanding of how adults learn and how to facilitate this learning effectively, both online and face-to-face.
